Volunteer Opportunities

APPLICATION PROCESS

The Volunteer Application Process is a four step process:

  1. First, we collect your basic information and what you would like to do as a volunteer. ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST COMPLETE THIS BASIC FORM.
  2. Next, we run a background check.
  3. Next, if you pass the background check, you will be invited to an interview.
  4. If you are accepted, you will then be given additional forms to submit that go over policies, medical history, legal requirements.

FIREFIGHTER

Although no previous experience or training is required, volunteer firefighters need more than just a desire to help people. Courage, dedication, assertiveness, and a willingness to learn new skills and face new challenges are a must. The fire service is one that calls on its members to perform hot, sweaty, dirty, strenuous, and inherently dangerous work, often in uncertain and hazardous environments.

Volunteers are team players, respecting each other’s role and contribution. Volunteers are on-call 24 / 7 / 365 and deal with occasional interruptions to lifestyle; dropping whatever we may be doing to respond to the emergency needs of our fellow citizens.

Areas of service include:

RESCUE

  • Medical Emergency/Assisting Ambulance Service (about 70% of responses)
  • Auto Extrication at motor vehicle accidents (about 10% of our responses)
  • Rescuing people from fire, collapsed buildings, machinery, confined spaces, etc.

FIRE SUPPRESSION

  • Structural fire (about 10% of our responses)
  • Vehicle fires
  • Wildland firefighting (about 10% of our responses)
  • Flammable liquid and compressed gas leaks or fires

HAZARDOUS MATERIALS

  • Containment and mitigation of hazardous materials.

FIRECORPS

Where Firefighters support our community, members of the FireCorps provide support to firefighters. FireCorps is designed to assist volunteer firefighters before, during and after calls.  On-scene they provide food & hydrating beverages and monitoring of firefighters for rest and rehab needs. This can be at structure fires in the middle of the night, or wildland fires over extended periods of time, or prolonged accident response. After incident support can involve caring for injured volunteers and/or their families, as well as cleaning hoses & vehicles, refurbishing medical supplies, etc.

Areas of service include: cleaning of vehicles and facilities, preparing and freezing food for future incident needs, organizing, promoting and working at fund-raisers and community events, writing grants, maintenance and repairs of facilities, vehicle work, public relations and assuring safe operations.
